Dark cloud has engulfed Malawi's football

Flames and Silver strikers goalkeeper Charles Swini has died yesterday at Kamuzu international hospital in Lilongwe. Charles swini died in the morning of 20 February this year after battling for kidney problems for months.

Charles Swini was born in Blantyre on 28 February 1985. He was 38 years of age. After collapsing he was rushed to Kamuzu international hospital in Lilongwe where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

He played for Escom united youth in 2004 to 2007 as a goalkeeper then he was promoted to main team where he played from 2008 to 2012, he moved to central bankers in 2012 and moved there to UD Songo in 2015, he played for UD Songo until 2020. 

Charles finished his football career here in Malawi by playing one season from 2020 to 2021 at civo united. Silver strikers has sent their mourning messages through their social media platforms.

Malawi’s football governing body’s Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya has also sent his mourning message to the nation and family of Charles Swin.

Airtel Malawi and football association of Malawi on Tuesday yesterday to celebrate the outstanding players from the airtel top 8 season 6 in Blantyre from 6 o’clock at Sunbird mount soche hotel.  Lanjesi Nkhoma" player of the 2023's tournament  FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed in an interview saying “ this event is for outstanding players and media personel who  contributed to the success of the competition`s fourth edition.
